The aim of the Agriculture Directorate is to develop policies for the agricultural sector and at the same time ensuring implementation of EU legislation both for farms as well as agricultural products.
In October 2017, the campaign Wines of Distinction was launched with the aim to promote and inform wine drinkers on the quality wines; DOK ‘Malta’, DOK ‘Gozo’ and IĠT ‘Maltese Islands’. The campaign is being based on television and radio adverts, participation in local television and radio shows, magazine advertorials and social media.
Nitrates are water-soluble substances, naturally found in organic matter and used in fertilisers. They are essential agriculture, quickly dissolve in water and can cause environmental disasters and are hazardous for human and animal health in larger quantities.
This scheme is open to all interested actors who form part of a recognised agricultural value chain. Such chains consist of binding products or production method specifications, which identify the production and farming methods and those elements that characterize the superior quality of the product.
Organic food is the product of an agricultural farming system that places a strong emphasis on environmental protection, fair income for farmers and animal welfare. Products produced, labelled and marketed as organic are only allowed if they have been inspected and certified by an official certification body.
